Directions to the WATER office
Walking from the Silver Spring Metro:
Get off at the Silver Spring Metro stop and take the escalator down to the main exit. Do not use the north exit.
Once you exit the building, turn right IMMEDIATELY. You will see a long sidewalk to goes up next to the new transit center. Take that sidewalk to the top.
When it ends, walk straight ahead, between the two large apartment buildings, until you come to Georgia Ave. which is where the street ends.
At Georgia Avenue, turn right and you will see the World Building (tall building with blue awning and a radio tower on top) on the other side of the street at 8121, between Silver Spring Avenue and Sligo Avenue. WATER is on the third floor, suite 310. Cross Georgia and come on up!
You can also ride FREE from the Metro on the purple VanGo bus. Get off the Silver Spring Metro stop at the main exit. Walk east on Collesville Road one block to Wayne Avenue. The bus picks up on the southeast corner of this intersection. Get off on Georgia Avenue after the bus crosses Silver Spring Avenue. Cross the street to the World Building.
After 7 PM and on weekends use the outside security dial-up systemto call the office (WATER, code 0310) and be buzzed in. At all other times just enter the building, sign in with the security person, and come up to the third floor.
Via Metro Bus:
The Metrobus Line 70 and 79 (Express) run up and down Georgia Avenue. Take the bus in the direction of Silver Spring Metro. Get off at the corner of Georgia Avenue and Blair Road. Walk north along Georgia Avenue (under the underpass). The World Building is between Silver Spring Avenue and Sligo Avenue.
From Union Station:
Take the Red Line in the direction of Glenmont/Silver Spring.
Get off at Silver Spring and follow walking directions above.
From Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport:
Follow the signs (M) from the terminal buildings to the Metro Station marked National Airport. Metro takes about 35-45 minutes to reach Silver Spring and costs about $4. A taxi costs about $30 and may take as long or longer depending on traffic.
Take the Yellow Line in the direction of Mt. Vernon Sq.-Convention Center. Get off at Gallery Place. Switch to the Red Line in the direction of Glenmont at Gallery Place/Chinatown. Take the Red Line to Silver Spring.

From Baltimore Washington International Airport:
Follow signs that say “Public Transit” to the BWI Express/B30 Metro bus stops. The bus stops on the lower level International Pier and the lower level of Concourse A/B outside of Southwest Airelines. Your destination is the Greenbelt Metro Station. The bus runs every 40 minutes and costs about $6 (exact change or Metro Smart Card). It takes about a half hour. A taxi from the airport will cost about $60; shuttles are also available for about $35.
Once at Greenbelt Metro Station, purchase a farecard (about $2). Take the Green Line in the direction of Branch Avenue and get off at the Fort Totten stop. This trip takes about 15 minutes. Switch at Fort Totten to the Red Line in the direction of Glenmont and get off at Silver Spring. Follow walking directions above.
From Washington Dulles International Airport:
Washington Flyer Coach Service takes you non-stop to Metro’s West Fall’s Church stop for $10 one way or $18 round-trip. This takes about 20-30 minutes.
Tickets can be purchased at the ticket counter located inside the vestibule of Door 4 on the Arrivals/Baggage Claim Level. You get the bus from the Main Terminal at Door 4 located on the Arrivals Level.
At West Falls Church Metro, take the Orange Line in the direction of New Carrollton. Get off at Metro Center and switch to the Red Line in the direction of Glenmont. Get off at the Silver Spring stop. Follow walking directions above.

Our address is already entered as the destination; just click on “To Here” in the white dialogue box and add the information (your starting point), such as “Dulles Airport”.
From the Beltway, take Exit 31 B (Route 97) Georgia Avenue south. Go south on Georgia Avenue, crossing Colesville Road, then Bonifant Street and Thayer Avenue. The World Building is on the left side at 8121, between Silver Spring and Sligo Avenues. There is a public parking (metered) garage behind the building.
From DC, go north on Georgia Avenue (which is the extension of 7th Street NW). You will cross the Maryland line (there is a sign that says “Welcome to Maryland”) and continue a few blocks on Georgia Avenue. You will go under an overpass (where the Metro trains cross) and come up a slight incline. The World Building is on the right, the first tall building you see. Just as you come out of the underpass, turn right onto Sligo Avenue. Then turn left almost immediately into the alley that leads to the public parking garage. The garage is about 20 yards down the alley on the right.
Parking at WATER:
There is metered parking on the streets surrounding the office (Georgia Avenue, Sligo Avenue, Silver Spring Avenue). But the most convenient is the parking garage behind the World Building accessible from Sligo, Silver Spring or Fenton Streets. Parking is $1/hour. Fees are due from 9 AM- 7 PM, Monday through Friday only. Evenings and weekends are free.
