Three Must-Read Resource Reviews
By Mary E. Hunt
I want to eat for breakfast whatever Joan Chittister eats. She pumps out books at lightening speed, or else she has a lot of elves out there in Erie, PA who help. Three recent ones include:
Chittister, Joan. 40 STORIES TO STIR THE SOUL. Erie, PA: Benetvision, 2010 (87 pages, $6).
The 40 stories are nice kick-offs for conversation and mediation, too. I can imagine preachers finding inspiration and borrowing an anecdote here and there.
Chittister, Joan. A MONASTERY ALMANAC. Erie, PA: Benetvision, 2010 (74 pages, $7).
The Almanac is a good daily reminder of how simple and easy prayer ought to be. Just for fun, go to your birthday and see what Joan has to say. You won’t be disappointed.
Chittister, Joan. SONGS OF THE HEART: REFLECTIONS ON THE PSALMS. New London, CT:
Twenty-Third Publications, 2011 (131 pages, $14.95).
The reflections on the Psalms make a rich little volume to keep in a pocket or purse. Joan finds a twist on every test, a way to bring it home.
Pass the oatmeal, Joan.
