Sisterly 2014 “Communities of Choice”
Come to the mountain and join lesbian, bi, trans, and queer women of faith and our allies to explore “Communities of Choice.” Sisterly Conversations is a chance to step out of routine and into a circle of welcoming, compassionate friends who value the insights of each participant and cherish the chance to connect with spirited women.
Two panels of participants will offer many perspectives to consider. The first will focus on “Living into Maturity” issues including how we all deal with being temporarily able-bodied, what works in relationships over time, and how to handle the myriad transitions we face along the way. A second panel will open up the richness of living in diverse and dynamic religious communities, including discussion of how our faith perspectives change, and what happens when we really interact with people from other traditions.
The weekend will include plenty of time to rest and renew at Kirkridge thanks to their healthy food and lovely setting. Worship and music will be integral parts of our time together: “Sing all you saints, sing all you women.” Optional caucuses (Catholic issues, contemplative prayer, 12 step groups, etc.) will make the weekend full. Of course there will be dancing for those who wish, and a time for just plain old conversation, so everyone will be able to express herself with ease and comfort.
Join the “Sisterly Conversations,” which has become a “community of choice” for so many women. Let it be one of your communities this year. See you on the mountain!
Partial scholarship assistance is available. Requests should be made to Kirkridge.
Mary E. Hunt will frame the weekend with lesbian feminist theological insights. She will address why community sometimes trumps even family in matters of support and nurture. She will ground our time together in religious terms, privileging the insights of women scholars and activists who build justice-seeking communities to survive and thrive.
Cost $365 includes double occupancy room, board and tuition.
